Key Points
Geranium sanguineum 'Khan' is a vigorous and striking perennial, a hybrid between Geranium sanguineum and Geranium wlassovianum, discovered in the Royal Horticultural Society's Wisley gardens in the mid-1990s. This cultivar is characterised by its large, bright pink flowers with darker veins, which bloom profusely from late spring through to autumn. The plant forms a dense, clump of deeply lobed, dark green foliage, reaching a height of around 40 cm and spreading up to 50 cm. Its compact habit and extended flowering period make it an excellent choice for adding vibrant colour to borders, rockeries, and containers.
'Khan' thrives in full sun to partial shade and adapts well to a variety of soil types, including clay, loam, and sandy soils, provided they are well-drained. It is relatively drought-tolerant once established, requiring minimal supplementary irrigation. The plant is fully hardy and exhibits good autumn colour, with its foliage turning attractive shades as the season progresses. 'Khan' is also known for its resilience and low-maintenance nature, making it a valuable addition to any garden.
