Potentilla atrosanguinea - 2026

Potentilla atrosanguinea, commonly known as the dark crimson cinquefoil or Himalayan cinquefoil, is a striking perennial with vibrant flowers and attractive foliage. Its blooms range from deep red to orange or yellow, appearing in loose sprays above hairy, strawberry-like leaves during summer and into early autumn. The contrast between the bright flowers and the silvery-green foliage adds visual interest even when not in full bloom.

This plant thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, performing best in fertile or moderately fertile ground that stays moist but does not waterlog. It is relatively easy to grow and benefits from deadheading to prolong flowering. As a non-native species in the UK, it brings exotic colour and supports pollinators with its long flowering period.
