Potentilla tonguei - 2026

Potentilla × tonguei is a low-growing, clump-forming perennial with dense, finely divided, dark green foliage that creates an attractive groundcover. From mid-spring through late summer it produces bright apricot-orange flowers with a red centre, creating a vivid display that contrasts beautifully with the foliage. Its compact habit makes it suitable for borders, rockeries, or sunny garden edges. The plant is hardy and drought-tolerant once established, thriving in a variety of soil types including poor, dry, or rocky soils. It is deer-resistant, low-maintenance, and attracts pollinators, adding ecological value to the garden.

It performs best in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerates mild frost, and remains semi-evergreen in warmer climates. Regular division helps maintain vigour and flowering. Although non-native to the UK, it provides a reliable and long-lasting ornamental display across the growing season.
