Rudbeckia occidentalis 'Black Beauty' - 2026

Rudbeckia ‘Black Beauty’ is a dramatic clump-forming perennial best known for its striking velvety black cone-shaped flowerheads surrounded by a golden ring of pollen in summer through to early autumn. The dark central cones contrast vividly against the green foliage and stand out in borders, cottage gardens or cut-flower plots. This variety attracts pollinators including bees and butterflies, offering ecological value along with bold ornamental appeal. It thrives in well-drained soil and full sun, becoming more resilient with age.

It prefers full sun with well-drained, moderately fertile soil and is relatively low-maintenance once established. Though non-native to the UK, it is fully hardy and works well as a focal plant in garden schemes that favour dark foliage or dramatic seasonal contrast.
