Introducing Luzula sylvatica, commonly known as Great Wood-rush, an enchanting ornamental grass that adds texture and elegance to shaded and woodland gardens. With its lush, green foliage and delicate flower spikes, this perennial brings a touch of woodland charm to any landscape, making it a favorite among garden enthusiasts.
Key Features:
- Lush Green Foliage: The standout feature of Luzula sylvatica is its broad, glossy green leaves. These form dense, tufted clumps that provide a rich, verdant ground cover, enhancing the visual appeal of shady areas.
- Graceful Flower Spikes: In late spring to early summer, Luzula sylvatica produces slender, airy flower spikes adorned with small, brownish flowers. These delicate blooms rise above the foliage, adding a soft, ethereal quality to the garden.
- Shade Tolerant: Perfect for shaded and partially shaded areas, Great Wood-rush thrives where many other plants struggle. It is an excellent choice for woodland gardens, shaded borders, and underplanting beneath trees and shrubs.
- Low Maintenance: This ornamental grass is easy to grow and care for, requiring minimal maintenance once established. It is tolerant of a variety of soil types, including poor and heavy soils, making it a versatile and resilient choice for any garden.
- Evergreen Beauty: Luzula sylvatica retains its lush green foliage year-round, providing continuous interest and color even in the winter months. Its evergreen nature ensures that your garden remains vibrant and inviting throughout the seasons.
Planting and Care:
To ensure your Luzula sylvatica thrives, plant it in a location with partial to full shade. It prefers moist, well-drained soil but can adapt to a range of soil conditions. Water regularly during the establishment phase, after which it requires only occasional watering. Remove any dead or damaged foliage in early spring to keep the plant looking its best.
Enhance your garden with the timeless charm and easy-care nature of Luzula sylvatica. This ornamental grass promises to bring lush greenery and delicate beauty to shaded areas, creating a tranquil and captivating woodland landscape. Embrace the elegance of Great Wood-rush and enjoy a garden that thrives with year-round color and grace.

Recycled Growing Media
At Lincs Plants, we’re proud to use a recycled, peat free growing mix that’s made right here in Lincolnshire. It’s made from coir with around 20% silt loam added in.
The coir keeps the mix light and free draining, while the silt loam adds structure and helps hold moisture and nutrients. By recycling used media and using locally sourced materials, we cut down on waste and reduce the need for imported peat based composts.
This home grown mix is part of our commitment to sustainable growing and supporting local production wherever possible.
At Lincs Plants, we operate from two main locations. When you place an order, we prepare and pack plants across both sites depending on what you’ve ordered.
Site 1 – Packing and Distribution
This site holds:
Oxygenating bunches
Loose lilies
Aquarium plants
Snails

Pond packs
Site 2 – Growing Site
This site holds:
Potted lilies
Potted plants
Plugs
Floating plants
Tropical plants
Fruit trees
We start processing orders each morning at 8am.
Orders that include items from Site 2 are dispatched the following day.
Orders that only include items from Site 1 are usually dispatched the same day.
During our peak periods, we can process up to 3,000 orders a day across multiple departments. Each department either supports a main packing team or packs orders directly.
We have five collections a day, so orders can leave throughout the day as soon as they’re ready.
During busy times, if we experience any delays, we’ll post updates on our social media and website to give everyone a heads up. This helps keep customers informed if there’s likely to be a delay of a few days.
