Description

The slightly ruffled edges enhance the flower’s refined beauty, making it a showpiece in the garden. Blooms appear in midsummer (June to July).

Growing Conditions
Iris ensata 'Dinner Plate Cheesecake' thrives in full sun to partial shade and requires consistently moist, slightly acidic to neutral soil. It is particularly well-suited for wet environments, such as pond edges, bog gardens, or shallow water up to 10 cm (4 inches) deep.
- Soil: Rich, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter, such as compost or well-rotted manure, to support healthy growth.

Hardy in temperate climates, including the UK, 'Dinner Plate Cheesecake' is frost-tolerant and reliably returns year after year.
Propagation and Care
- Division: Divide clumps every 3–4 years in late summer or early autumn after flowering. Replant the divisions in well-prepared, moist soil to maintain vigor and encourage fresh growth.
- Seed: Sow seeds in autumn or early spring in a damp, well-drained growing medium. While slower, seed propagation is an option for those with patience.
-
Routine Care:
- Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture.
- Apply mulch annually to retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and enrich the soil.
- Cut back old foliage in late autumn to prepare the plant for winter dormancy.
- Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, low-nitrogen fertilizer to encourage healthy growth and abundant flowering.
Uses
- Ornamental: The oversized, creamy-white flowers of Iris ensata 'Dinner Plate Cheesecake' make it an eye-catching addition to water gardens, pond edges, and boggy areas, providing a sense of elegance and sophistication.

Considerations
- Moisture Needs: Consistent moisture is essential for optimal growth and blooming. Ensure the soil remains wet during the growing season.
- Light Requirements: Full sun is ideal for maximum flowering, though partial shade is suitable in hot climates.

Recycled Growing Media
At Lincs Plants, we’re proud to use a recycled, peat free growing mix that’s made right here in Lincolnshire. It’s made from coir with around 20% silt loam added in.
The coir keeps the mix light and free draining, while the silt loam adds structure and helps hold moisture and nutrients. By recycling used media and using locally sourced materials, we cut down on waste and reduce the need for imported peat based composts.
This home grown mix is part of our commitment to sustainable growing and supporting local production wherever possible.
