In summer it produces slim upright flower heads that turn buff-brown. Its neat, rounded shape and cool colour make it ideal for edging, gravel gardens, rockeries and containers, and for contrasting with purple or bronze foliage.

Grow in full sun in light, well-drained soil; it dislikes wet, heavy ground, especially in winter. Very cold-hardy and drought tolerant once established. Comb out dead leaves in spring and trim off old flower stems after flowering to keep the clump tidy.
