Key Points
Large Fruits: The Tomcot variety produces larger-than-average apricots, making it an attractive choice for those seeking a bountiful harvest of substantial-sized fruits.
Suitable for Cooler Climates: Tomcot is known for its adaptability to cooler or maritime climates, making it a viable option for regions where other apricot varieties might struggle to thrive.
Full Sun Position: It thrives in full sun, which is essential for fruit-bearing plants to produce abundant and flavorful fruits.
Soil Tolerance: While it doesn't favor extremely chalky or poorly drained soils, it generally tolerates a variety of soil types, which can be advantageous for different gardening situations.
Self-Fertile: The fact that Tomcot is self-fertile means you don't necessarily need another apricot tree for cross-pollination to produce fruit. This can be convenient for gardeners with limited space.
Hardiness: While it's considered fully hardy in some areas, it's borderline in others. However, with proper care and suitable planting conditions (freely draining soils, warm and sunny position), it tends to be reliably hardy, especially when planted against a south-facing wall to maximize warmth and sunlight exposure.
Attractive Appearance: The fruit's transformation as it ripens—turning orange with a strong red blush—adds aesthetic appeal to the garden.
Grafted onto St Julien A Rootstock: Being grafted onto a specific rootstock enhances its overall growth and performance, ensuring a more robust and productive tree.
Ultimately, planting a Tomcot apricot can provide gardeners with an opportunity to grow a fruit tree that offers larger fruits in regions where traditional apricot varieties might struggle due to cooler or maritime climates. Its self-fertile nature and adaptability to various soils make it a practical and rewarding choice for fruit enthusiasts.

Recycled Growing Media
At Lincs Plants, we’re proud to use a recycled, peat free growing mix that’s made right here in Lincolnshire. It’s made from coir with around 20% silt loam added in.
The coir keeps the mix light and free draining, while the silt loam adds structure and helps hold moisture and nutrients. By recycling used media and using locally sourced materials, we cut down on waste and reduce the need for imported peat based composts.
This home grown mix is part of our commitment to sustainable growing and supporting local production wherever possible.
At Lincs Plants, we operate from two main locations. When you place an order, we prepare and pack plants across both sites depending on what you’ve ordered.

We start processing orders each morning at 8am.

During our peak periods, we can process up to 3,000 orders a day across multiple departments. Each department either supports a main packing team or packs orders directly.
We have five collections a day, so orders can leave throughout the day as soon as they’re ready.
During busy times, if we experience any delays, we’ll post updates on our social media and website to give everyone a heads up. This helps keep customers informed if there’s likely to be a delay of a few days.
