Incarvillea delavayi - 2026

Incarvillea delavayi, commonly known as hardy gloxinia or flowering fern, is a striking herbaceous perennial native to the mountainous regions of southwestern China. It features lush, fern-like foliage with pinnate leaves forming a textured basal rosette, creating a rich green backdrop for its vibrant flowers. The trumpet-shaped blooms are pinkish-red with a yellow throat, appearing in early to mid-summer and adding an exotic splash of colour to shaded borders, rock gardens, or woodland edges.

Ecologically, Incarvillea delavayi attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies, supporting local biodiversity. It prefers well-drained, moist soil and partial to full shade, thriving in cooler conditions while avoiding hot, humid summers. While relatively low-maintenance, the plant may require protection from intense midday sun and slugs to maintain healthy growth and vibrant flowering.
