Nepeta subsessilis 'Washfield' - 2026

Nepeta subsessilis 'Washfield' is a refined, upright catmint cultivar renowned for its striking blue-violet flowers and aromatic green foliage. Originating from Elizabeth Strangman’s British nursery, it is celebrated as one of the finest forms of the Japanese species. From late spring through autumn, it produces dense, terminal spikes of tubular flowers, each with a distinctive maroon-spotted lip. These blooms attract a variety of pollinators, including bees and butterflies, enhancing the ecological value of the garden. The plant's compact, bushy habit and rich green leaves provide a neat, textured backdrop even when not in bloom.

'Washfield' thrives in well-drained soils and prefers a sunny to partially shaded position. It is fully hardy in the UK and is less prone to mildew than some other Nepeta varieties.
