Tradescantia andersoniana 'Concord Grape' - 2026

Tradescantia ‘Concord Grape’ forms a neat, clump-forming perennial that brings vibrant late summer colour to the garden. The foliage is narrow, lance-shaped and blue-green, giving a grassy, architectural backdrop even when not in flower. From early to late summer it produces clusters of three-petalled flowers in a rich violet-purple shade with bright yellow stamens. Each individual bloom lasts for a day, but the abundance of buds ensures a long flowering period, making it a reliable source of summer interest.

This plant does well in moist, fertile, well-drained soil and thrives in full sun or partial shade. In sunnier spots the purple blooms are more vivid, while part shade helps protect foliage from scorching. It’s relatively easy to care for: cut back spent flowered stems to encourage more new growth, and divide clumps in spring if they become crowded.
