Tradescantia andersoniana 'Little Doll' - 2026

Tradescantia ‘Little Doll’ is a charming and compact perennial prized for its delicate flowers and neat habit. The plant forms dense, mound-forming clumps of narrow, slightly arching dark green foliage that remains tidy throughout the growing season. When summer arrives it produces showers of pale blue / light lavender-blue three-petalled flowers, each with bright yellow stamens. Although individual blooms only last a day, the plant carries plentiful buds so the flowering display is prolonged and reliable from early summer into autumn. The overall effect is soft, graceful and quietly ornamental, ideal for introducing gentle colour without overwhelming neighbouring plants.

Ecologically, ‘Little Doll’ attracts bees and butterflies, adding wildlife value, and its foliage helps with soil cover and moisture retention. It prefers moist but well-drained, fertile soil, and does well in full sun to part shade (especially where summers are hot, a little shade in the afternoon helps). It is hardy in UK gardens, fairly low-maintenance, and responds well to deadheading or cutting back spent flower stems to stimulate fresh growth and possibly more blooms. Suitable for front of borders, containers, woodland edges or along pond margins where its compact form can shine.
