Hosta 'Lipstick Blonde' - 2026

Hosta ‘Lipstick Blonde’ is a striking perennial prized for its bold foliage and vivid stem colour. The leaves are lance-shaped, bright yellow with a slightly crumpled or corrugated texture, and they sit atop intense red petioles, creating a dramatic and eye-catching display, especially when planted in partial shade with morning sun. As the season progresses, the yellow foliage retains its vibrancy when given enough light, though too much shade can cause the colour to fade.

In summer, it produces upright scapes carrying clusters of pale lavender‐purple, bell-shaped flowers that rise above the foliage, attracting pollinators. ‘Lipstick Blonde’ thrives in moist, fertile, well-drained soil and prefers partial shade to full shade, avoiding the harsher afternoon sun which might scorch the leaves. It is non-native, clump forming, of medium growth rate, and makes a wonderful specimen for containers, borders or mixed shade plantings thanks to its vivid colouring and contrasting red stems.
