Hosta 'Magic Island' - 2026

Hosta ‘Magic Island’ is a beautiful compact perennial prized for its vibrant variegated foliage. The leaves have glowing golden-yellow centres framed by wide blue-green margins, which soften to creamy yellow as the season advances and the centres lighten while the margins deepen in tone. The foliage is lightly cupped and of substantial thickness, offering strong texture and visual contrast that brightens shady garden corners or containers.

In midsummer, ‘Magic Island’ sends up short scapes bearing pale lavender, bell-shaped flowers that attract pollinators. This cultivar grows best in moist, well-drained, organically rich soil, and favours partial shade to full shade, tolerating some morning sun. It is relatively low-maintenance and resistant to slugs, making it a reliable choice for regular gardens or display collections. It is non-native, clump-forming, and its compact size makes it especially useful for front of border planting or smaller beds.
