Hosta 'Ryan's Big One' - 2026

Hosta ‘Ryan’s Big One’ is an impressive giant hosta that makes a bold statement in a shady garden. The leaves are large, rounded and heavily textured (rugose), with a blue-green hue that gives a striking architectural presence. In early summer it sends up very tall scapes bearing flaring, pale lavender flowers, which add height and attract pollinators. Ecologically, it’s great for providing shade cover for underplantings and moisture retention in the soil beneath its large foliage.

This hosta thrives in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil and performs best in partial shade to full shade. It requires space to reach its full size and benefits from shelter from harsh afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaf surface. Once established, it’s relatively low-maintenance though division may be needed over time to keep the clump healthy.
