Acanthus mollis - 2026

Acanthus mollis, commonly known as bear’s breeches, is a bold and architectural perennial prized for its large, glossy, deeply cut leaves and dramatic flower spikes. In summer, it produces tall, upright stems reaching well above the foliage, topped with striking white flowers enclosed by sharp purple bracts, creating a stately display that adds structure and elegance to the garden.

This clump-forming plant thrives in fertile, moist but well-drained soil and prefers a position in full sun to partial shade. Hardy and reliable, it makes an excellent feature plant in borders or as part of a mixed planting scheme, where its dramatic foliage contrasts beautifully with softer plants.
