Propagation and Care
- Division: Propagate by dividing tubers in spring. Replant divisions in moist, well-drained soil.
- Tuber Storage (Cold Climates): In temperate regions, lift the tubers before the first frost and store them in a dry, cool place for winter.
-
Routine Care:
- Water regularly to maintain soil moisture, especially in dry periods.
- Apply mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Fertilize monthly with a balanced fertilizer during the growing season to encourage lush foliage.
- In colder climates, grow in containers for easy overwintering indoors.
Uses
- Water Gardens: Thrives along pond edges or in bog gardens, adding a tropical feel.

Ecological Value
- Pollinators: Occasional flowers may attract pollinators, but the plant is primarily ornamental.
- Erosion Control: The dense root system helps stabilize soil in wet areas.
Considerations
- Cold Sensitivity: Colocasia 'Red-Eyed Gecko' is not frost-hardy and must be protected in colder climates.
- Moisture Needs: Requires consistently moist conditions and is not suited for dry soils.
- Pests: May attract aphids, spider mites, or caterpillars. Monitor and treat as needed with organic insect control methods.

Recycled Growing Media
At Lincs Plants, we’re proud to use a recycled, peat free growing mix that’s made right here in Lincolnshire. It’s made from coir with around 20% silt loam added in.
The coir keeps the mix light and free draining, while the silt loam adds structure and helps hold moisture and nutrients. By recycling used media and using locally sourced materials, we cut down on waste and reduce the need for imported peat based composts.
This home grown mix is part of our commitment to sustainable growing and supporting local production wherever possible.
At Lincs Plants, we operate from two main locations. When you place an order, we prepare and pack plants across both sites depending on what you’ve ordered.
