delphinium-black-knight-9cm-potted
Delphinium 'Black Knight'

Delphinium 'Black Knight' is a much-loved Pacific Giant delphinium producing tall, densely packed spires of semi-double, deep blue-purple flowers, each with a striking black eye, in early to midsummer. The intense colour gives drama to the back of cottage and herbaceous borders, contrasts well with white and pale yellow flowers, and lasts well as a cut flower.

Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil in a spot sheltered from strong winds, and provide stakes before the spikes develop. It is hardy in most of the UK but can be short-lived. Protect young growth from slugs and snails, deadhead spent spikes, and cut stems to ground level at the end of the season. All parts are harmful if eaten, so wear gloves when handling and keep away from pets.
