It produces short, full spikes of fully double, intense deep purple-blue flowers with a black bee at the centre in early to midsummer. Ideal for the front or middle of a border, patio pots and smaller gardens, it needs no tall staking.

Grow in full sun in fertile, moist but well-drained soil; it is fully hardy. Trim back spent spikes after the first flush to encourage reblooming later in the season. Protect young shoots from slugs and snails, and cut back hard if mildew appears in midsummer. Bees visit the flowers. All parts are harmful if eaten, so wear gloves when handling and keep away from pets.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0861/1590/9979/files/Delphinium_DelphinaDarkBlueBlackBee_01.jpg?v=1793201990
