Sturdy spikes carry semi-double flowers in deep blue-purple, each with a dark, almost black central bee that gives a velvety, dramatic look. Reaching around 60-80cm, it adds strong vertical colour to the middle of sunny borders and cottage-style schemes.

Give it full sun and fertile, moist but well-drained soil, ideally out of strong winds; RHS hardiness is H5. Protect emerging shoots from slugs and snails and stake lightly where needed. Remove spent spikes after flowering and feed to encourage repeat blooms later in the season. The flowers are visited by bees. All parts are harmful if eaten, so wear gloves when handling.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0861/1590/9979/files/Delphinium-Excalibur-Dark-Blue-Black-Bee-001.jpg?v=1793979738
