digitalis-purpurea-excelsior-mixed-9cm-potted
Digitalis purpurea 'Excelsior Mixed'

Digitalis purpurea Excelsior Group, sold as 'Excelsior Mixed', is a tall strain of common foxglove in a mix of purple, pink, creamy-yellow and white. Its flowers are held all around the stem rather than on one side, showing their maroon- or purple-spotted throats. Reaching up to 2 metres in flower, it makes a bold vertical accent at the back of borders, in cottage gardens and woodland-edge planting.

Plant in sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil; it tolerates most soils and is very hardy (RHS H7). It is a biennial or short-lived perennial, flowering from late spring into July. Deadheading encourages more flowers, while leaving some spikes to seed keeps plants coming. Tall spikes may need support in exposed gardens. Bumblebees love the flowers. All parts are toxic if eaten, so wear gloves when handling.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0861/1590/9979/files/DigitalisExcelsiorGrouo_b481fe83-41e7-45ef-8da3-22950cdeb557.jpg?v=1758714006
