It is compact and long-flowering, and its gentle colouring suits the front of sunny borders, gravel gardens, raised beds and containers, especially alongside spring bulbs and purple or bronze foliage.

Plant in full sun in well-drained, preferably neutral to alkaline soil; good drainage helps it through winter, and similar perennial wallflowers are hardy in most of the UK (RHS H5). Deadhead or trim lightly after each flush to keep plants compact. Perennial wallflowers are short-lived and become woody after a few years, so take softwood cuttings in summer to replace them. The flowers provide nectar for bees and butterflies.
