From early summer to early autumn it carries large daisy flowers in hot shades of red, orange and yellow on upright stems above bright green leaves. Its short, bushy habit suits the front of sunny borders, gravel and coastal gardens, wildlife plantings and patio containers.

Grow in full sun in light, well-drained or even poor, sandy soil; it is drought tolerant and hardy in most of the UK (RHS H5), but dislikes heavy, wet clay in winter. Blanket flowers are relatively short-lived, so expect to replace plants after a few years. Deadhead regularly to keep flowers coming and cut back in late summer to encourage new basal growth. Bees and butterflies visit the flowers.
