gaura-lindheimeri-9cm-potted
Gaura lindheimeri

Gaura lindheimeri, sometimes called whirling butterflies or bee blossom, is a graceful, long-flowering perennial from Texas and Louisiana. Slender, wiry stems rise from a clump of narrow leaves, carrying a succession of small white flowers, often flushed pink, that seem to dance in the breeze from early summer until autumn. Use it to add airy movement to sunny borders, gravel gardens and large containers.

Grow in full sun in light, very well-drained soil; it is drought tolerant once established but dislikes cold, wet winter soil, which is its main cause of loss. It holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit and is rated hardy through most of the UK (RHS H4) given good drainage, but plants can be short-lived. Cut back old stems in spring once new growth appears, and trim lightly in midsummer if plants flop. Bees and butterflies visit the flowers.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0861/1590/9979/files/Shutterstock_2348220239_ca007c09-def1-47ce-9b41-70ae02df2f9b.jpg?v=1758714002
