Its soft, lobed, aromatic leaves often colour red in autumn, and in late spring and early summer it carries clusters of pale pink flowers on dark red stems. Ideal for dry shade, banks and woodland edges.

Grow in sun or shade in any well-drained soil; it is one of the best ground covers for dry shade under trees and shrubs, and dislikes only waterlogged ground. Fully hardy in the UK. Remove faded flower stems to keep it tidy, and divide clumps in spring or autumn. Bees visit the flowers. The leaves release a strong aromatic scent when brushed or crushed.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0861/1590/9979/files/Geraniummacrorrhizum_Ingwersen_sVariety_01.jpg?v=1756888710
