These blooms appear from early summer through late autumn on scapes bearing multiple flowers, each lasting only one day.

This species thrives in full sun to partial shade and is tolerant of a range of soil types, including poor soils. It is drought-tolerant once established and performs reliably through summer heat. Hemerocallis fulva is known for its rapid spread via rhizomes, making it an effective ground cover and erosion control plant. However, it is considered invasive in some regions due to its aggressive growth habit.
