Hosta elata - 2026

Hosta elata is a robust, clump-forming perennial renowned for its impressive size and striking foliage. The plant features large, heart-shaped green leaves with deeply impressed veins, creating a textured appearance that adds visual interest to shaded garden areas. Its upright habit and substantial size make it an excellent choice for creating bold focal points or as a backdrop in woodland gardens.

In mid to late summer, Hosta elata produces tall flower scapes bearing clusters of pale purple to white funnel-shaped flowers with yellow anthers, reaching heights of 1.2 to 1.5 metres (4 to 5 feet). This cultivar thrives in moist, well-drained soils and prefers partial to full shade. It is relatively low-maintenance, requiring minimal care to thrive and provide year-round interest in the garden.
