Hosta 'Fire Island' - 2026

Hosta 'Fire Island' is a striking perennial that forms a compact, mound-forming clump of heart-shaped leaves. The foliage emerges bright yellow in spring, with red petioles that extend into the base of the leaves, creating a fiery contrast. As the season progresses, the leaves mature to a chartreuse colour, while the red petioles remain vibrant throughout. The leaves are slightly wavy with gently rippled margins, adding texture and visual interest to shaded garden areas.

In mid to late summer, 'Fire Island' produces tall scapes adorned with clusters of pale lavender flowers, adding vertical interest and attracting pollinators. This cultivar thrives in moist, well-drained soils and prefers partial to full shade. It is relatively low-maintenance, requiring minimal care to thrive and provide year-round interest in the garden.
