Hosta 'Goosberry Sundae' - 2026

Hosta ‘Gooseberry Sundae’ is a medium-sized, clump-forming perennial which brings depth and drama to shaded borders with its dark glossy foliage and striking stem contrast. The leaves are rich dark green, slightly shiny, forming a rounded mound of thick, ovate foliage. The petioles (leaf stems) are deep purple-red, which adds a dramatic touch especially in shady or woodland garden settings. The contrast between the dark foliage and red stems gives it ornamental interest even when not in flower.

In mid to late summer, ‘Gooseberry Sundae’ sends up scapes of pale lavender to lilac bell-shaped flowers which rise above the foliage mound, attracting pollinators and adding height. It prefers moist, rich, well-drained soil and does best in partial shade to full shade. Regular mulching helps retain moisture and shade in higher light conditions helps maintain leaf quality. It is relatively low maintenance but benefits from protection from slugs and snails early in the growing season.
