Hosta 'Liberty' - 2026

Hosta ‘Liberty’ is a grand and impressive perennial that brings bold variegation and structure to shaded gardens. Its large, broadly heart-shaped leaves are blue-green in the centre, edged with a very broad margin of golden yellow which, as the season progresses, gradually fades to creamy white. This dramatic contrast gives it strong visual appeal, making it an excellent focal point, especially in borders or amongst other shade-loving plants.

In mid to late summer, Liberty produces sturdy scapes with pale lavender, funnel-shaped flowers held above the foliage, attracting pollinators. It thrives in moist, organically rich but well-drained soil and prefers partial shade to full shade. Cold, drying winds should be avoided to protect the leaf edges. Once established, it is relatively low-maintenance though slow to fully fill out. Liberty is non-native, and its bold foliage, ample size, and strong margins make it a standout in the shade garden.
