Hosta 'Red Stepper' - 2026

Hosta ‘Red Stepper’ is a striking and decorative clump-forming perennial appreciated for both its glossy foliage and splash of colour at the stem. The leaves are rich green and shiny, held aloft on red petioles (leaf stalks), especially noticeable at the base. As the leaves mature they may appear somewhat crinkled. Pale lavender flowers emerge in late summer, adding ornamental and ecological appeal by attracting pollinators.

It performs well in shade or partial shade, in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soils. Because of its strong foliage and vivid stems, it can also do well in pots or as a focal plant in mixed borders, especially where its red “legs” are visible. It has reasonably sturdy growth and shows some tolerance for brighter spots (but avoid harsh midday sun to prevent scorching).
