From midsummer into early autumn it bears fragrant spikes of blue-purple flowers, a little later than many lavenders. Use it for low hedging, edging, gravel gardens and pots, or to add silver texture to a sunny border.

Grow in full sun in well-drained soil; it suits sand, chalk or loam, is drought resistant once established and is hardy in most of the UK if kept out of winter wet. Trim off spent flower stems and lightly clip the foliage after flowering, avoiding old wood. The flowers are a good nectar source for bees.
