It forms a slowly spreading mat that is perfect for rock gardens, raised beds, the tops of walls, gravel and the front of acid-soil borders, and it also does well in containers.

Lithodora needs a well-drained, acidic or neutral soil and dislikes lime and heavy clay, where roots can rot; grow it in full sun or light shade, or in ericaceous compost in pots. It holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit and is hardy in most of the UK (RHS H5), but dislikes cold, wet winter conditions. Trim lightly after flowering to keep it compact. Bees visit the flowers.
