From late spring into summer it is covered in deep royal-blue, star-shaped flowers that stand out against the foliage. It is excellent for rock gardens, raised beds, gravel, wall tops and the edge of acid-soil borders, and it trails attractively from pots.

Lithodora needs a well-drained, acidic or neutral soil and dislikes lime and heavy clay, where roots can rot; grow it in full sun or light shade, or in ericaceous compost in pots. It holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit and is hardy in most of the UK (RHS H5), but dislikes cold, wet winter conditions. Trim lightly after flowering to keep it compact.
