From spring into early summer it is covered in star-shaped flowers of clear sky blue. It makes good ground cover for rock gardens, raised beds and wall tops, and works as a trailing plant over the edges of pots.

Lithodora needs a well-drained, acid to neutral soil and dislikes lime and heavy, wet clay, where the roots can rot; in pots use ericaceous compost. Grow in full sun or light shade. The species is hardy in most of the UK (RHS H5) but resents cold, wet winter soil. Trim lightly after flowering to keep it compact. Bees visit the flowers.
