Ophiopogon japonicus 'Minor' - 2026

Ophiopogon japonicus ‘Minor’ is a dwarf, grass-like evergreen perennial that forms low, dense clumps of narrow leathery dark green leaves. During summer it sometimes bears short racemes of small bell-shaped flowers, white to pale lilac in colour, followed by blue-black berries. Its evergreen foliage provides year-round texture and colour, and its compact habit makes it excellent for edging, groundcover in shaded spots, or underplanting beneath shrubs.

This plant prefers moist but well-drained, humus-rich soil and does best in full sun to partial shade. It is fully hardy in the UK, resilient through typical winter conditions. Little maintenance is required beyond removing old leaves in spring and ensuring drainage is good. It is ideal for small gardens, rockeries, borders or containers.
