Potentilla 'Gibson's Scarlet' - 2026

Potentilla ‘Gibson’s Scarlet’ is a vibrant clump-forming perennial that bursts into life in summer with clusters of single scarlet-red, saucer-shaped flowers held above palmate, strawberry-like foliage. The flowers have contrasting dark centres and appear continuously from early summer through to late summer, providing long-lasting colour in sunny borders, cottage garden beds or along pathways. The foliage remains tidy, mid-green, serving as an excellent foil for the vivid blooms. Deadheading spent flowers encourages more blooms and keeps the plant looking its best.

This cultivar thrives in full sun in well-drained soil; it tolerates a range of soil types so long as drainage is good. It is fairly easy to grow and hardy, making it suited to beginner gardeners. Although non-native to the UK, it offers ecological value by attracting pollinators throughout its flowering period.
