salvia-nemorosa-caradonna-9cm-potted
Salvia nemorosa 'Caradonna'

Salvia nemorosa 'Caradonna' is a popular hardy sage, also called Balkan clary, with slender, upright spikes of deep violet-purple flowers held on striking, near-black stems above aromatic green leaves. It flowers from early summer and repeats well into late summer, and holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Use it in sunny borders, gravel gardens and prairie-style schemes, and with roses.

Grow in full sun in light, well-drained soil; it dislikes heavy, wet ground and grows poorly in shade. Very hardy and drought tolerant once established. Cut back the first flush of flower spikes as they fade to encourage a second display, and clear old growth in late winter. A favourite with bees.
