stipa-tenuissima-pony-tails-9cm-potted
Stipa tenuissima 'Pony Tails'

Stipa tenuissima 'Pony Tails' is a Mexican feather grass forming soft, upright then arching clumps of very fine, thread-like bright green leaves. In summer it produces feathery, greenish-gold flower heads that age to buff and sway in the slightest breeze, staying attractive into late autumn. It is perfect for softening sunny borders, gravel gardens, prairie-style planting and containers.

Grow in full sun in light, well-drained, moderately fertile soil; it is drought tolerant once established. Hardy through most of the UK (RHS H4). Leave the old growth over winter and comb or cut it back in early spring rather than in autumn. It can self-seed, so remove unwanted seedlings. Divide clumps in spring if needed.
