Tradescantia andersoniana 'J.C. Weguelin' - 2026

Tradescantia ‘J.C. Weguelin’ is a lovely perennial that brings cool, calming colour and graceful form to the garden. The plant forms sturdy clumps of narrow, arching, sword-shaped green leaves that stay attractive through much of the growing season. In summer, it bears clusters of pale azure to light blue flowers, each with three petals and bright yellow stamens, held aloft on erect stems above the foliage. The blooms are generous and persistent, bringing a long season of interest and attracting pollinators such as bees.

This cultivar thrives in moist, fertile, well-drained soil and prefers full sun to partial shade (a little shade helps in very hot afternoons). It is hardy in UK gardens and will perform well in borders, mixed perennial beds, or along pond edges. Once established, ‘J.C. Weguelin’ is fairly easy to maintain: remove spent flowers to prolong blooming, divide every few years if it becomes crowded, and cut back foliage in late winter or early spring to encourage fresh growth.
