Key Points
Cobnuts and filberts, both belonging to the hazelnut family, are easy-to-cultivate plants that serve both productive and decorative purposes in gardens. Requiring minimal space, they bring late winter beauty with their catkins. Effective pollination is ensured by planting two different varieties close together. Typically harvested in September, these nuts can be enjoyed when tender or stored for winter, providing a delightful treat when roasted. Delivered in 3-liter pots, the trees stand around 90-120cm (3-4ft) tall.
Reasons to have a Cosford cobnut tree in the garden include:
Nut Production: The tree yields delicious and flavorful nuts, popular for snacking, baking, and cooking.
Gardening and Landscaping: Beyond practical use, the tree enhances the garden or landscape with its foliage, flowers, and nuts.
Self-Sufficiency: Growing one's own nuts contributes to a sense of self-sufficiency and sustainability, providing access to fresh, homegrown produce.
Variety and Uniqueness: Ideal for those interested in cultivating unique or lesser-known varieties of plants, appealing to heritage or heirloom enthusiasts.
Wildlife and Ecology: Attracting wildlife like birds and squirrels, the tree positively contributes to the local ecosystem.
Educational Purposes: A valuable tool for families or educational institutions, the tree offers an opportunity to learn about plant growth, nut production, and the ecosystem.
Cultural or Historical Interest: For those interested in preserving or celebrating regional or cultural heritage, the Cosford cobnut holds historical significance.
The decision to have a Cosford cobnut tree depends on personal preferences, culinary interests, environmental considerations, and the desire to cultivate something unique or culturally significant in the garden.

Recycled Growing Media
At Lincs Plants, we’re proud to use a recycled, peat free growing mix that’s made right here in Lincolnshire. It’s made from coir with around 20% silt loam added in.
The coir keeps the mix light and free draining, while the silt loam adds structure and helps hold moisture and nutrients. By recycling used media and using locally sourced materials, we cut down on waste and reduce the need for imported peat based composts.
This home grown mix is part of our commitment to sustainable growing and supporting local production wherever possible.
At Lincs Plants, we operate from two main locations. When you place an order, we prepare and pack plants across both sites depending on what you’ve ordered.
Site 1 – Packing and Distribution
This site holds:
Oxygenating bunches
Loose lilies
Aquarium plants
Snails
Pots
Pond packs
Site 2 – Growing Site
This site holds:
Potted lilies
Potted plants
Plugs
Floating plants
Tropical plants
Fruit trees
We start processing orders each morning at 8am.
Orders that include items from Site 2 are dispatched the following day.
Orders that only include items from Site 1 are usually dispatched the same day.
During our peak periods, we can process up to 3,000 orders a day across multiple departments. Each department either supports a main packing team or packs orders directly.
We have five collections a day, so orders can leave throughout the day as soon as they’re ready.
During busy times, if we experience any delays, we’ll post updates on our social media and website to give everyone a heads up. This helps keep customers informed if there’s likely to be a delay of a few days.
