Schizostylis Coccinea 'Oregon Sunset'
Schizostylis coccinea Oregon Sunset, commonly known as Crimson Flag or Hesperantha coccinea Oregon Sunset, is a striking perennial plant in the Iridaceae family. This cultivar is renowned for its vibrant, sunset-coloured flowers that add a splash of warmth and colour to late-season gardens. Native to South Africa, Schizostylis coccinea thrives in temperate climates and is particularly well-suited for moist garden settings.
Oregon Sunset typically grows to a height of 1 to 2 feet, with a similar spread. The plant forms clumps of narrow, sword-shaped leaves that are bright green and reach up to 12 inches in length. These leaves provide a lush, grassy backdrop to the plant’s stunning flowers.
From late summer to early winter, Schizostylis coccinea Oregon Sunset produces an abundance of vivid, sunset-orange to deep red flowers. Each star-shaped flower is about 2 inches in diameter and is borne on slender, erect stems that rise above the foliage. The flowers open sequentially from the bottom of the spike upwards, ensuring a prolonged display of colour. These vibrant blooms are not only visually appealing but also attract various pollinators, including bees and butterflies.
Crimson Flag prefers full sun to partial shade and thrives in consistently moist to wet soils.
Caring for Schizostylis coccinea Oregon Sunset is relatively easy. The plant requires regular watering to maintain its preferred moist conditions, especially during dry periods.
Overall, Schizostylis coccinea Oregon Sunset is a versatile and attractive plant that brings a burst of vibrant colour to garden landscapes. Its striking flowers, ease of care, and adaptability to moist conditions make it a valuable addition to gardens focused on water features, borders, and damp areas.

Recycled Growing Media
At Lincs Plants, we’re proud to use a recycled, peat free growing mix that’s made right here in Lincolnshire. It’s made from coir with around 20% silt loam added in.
The coir keeps the mix light and free draining, while the silt loam adds structure and helps hold moisture and nutrients. By recycling used media and using locally sourced materials, we cut down on waste and reduce the need for imported peat based composts.
This home grown mix is part of our commitment to sustainable growing and supporting local production wherever possible.
At Lincs Plants, we operate from two main locations. When you place an order, we prepare and pack plants across both sites depending on what you’ve ordered.
