Polemonium reptans 'Stairway to Heaven' - 2026

Polemonium reptans ‘Stairway to Heaven’ is a striking perennial valued for both its variegated foliage and delicate spring blooms. The compound leaves are mid green edged with creamy white, often flushed with pink in cooler weather, creating a dramatic leaf effect through much of the growing season. In spring, upright stems are topped with clusters of pale blue to light blue-white, bell-shaped flowers that rise above the foliage, bringing soft colour to woodland borders and shaded garden spots.

This plant performs best in moist but well-drained soil, thriving in full sun to partial shade, especially where summer heat is moderated. It is relatively easy to maintain, tolerant of a range of soils, and benefits from deadheading to prolong flowering. As a non-native garden perennial, it brings substantial ornamental and ecological value, attracting pollinators and adding visual interest from leaf emergence in spring through to autumn fade.
